From what I've read, sound wise they are not one of EV's better designs. That gives me no reason to jump on them. Also don't know if price is high. Cabs look nice.

That's about 10 times the amount that they're actually worth on a good day. I had a pair and they're certainly nothing special.

They do look nice; their sound isn't bad but it's the polar opposite of "transparent" (let's call them opaque-sounding). Motorstereo's pair passed through here

Find an early pair of EV Esquires. Very similar form factor; much better execution, with a 12BW woofer, LS-8 twincone driver for midrange (really more of a fullrange driver with augmented LF and HF) and a T-35B tweeter.

I believe it is a synergy thing with these speakers. I've had a pair now for over 8 years and had different combo's hooked to them over the years and some components sound very different with them. I don't know if its a damping thing or not because I once thought the woofers were wooley sounding but hooked up to a H/K 330b they sound awfully nice. I'm sure it is well past recap time also as the electrolytic caps are in need of a change. Ya the price is high but if you can get them from 60- 80 bucks you can't go wrong.
