EV Interface D's Refoam?

I finally found a dream pair that I've been searching for. Got them for a steal too. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on where to get a reforming kit that would work with the 812-0090 woofer from the Interface series II. A friend who has a pair says that the original foams were 1" roll and all I seem to find online is the 3/4" ... any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated!

The cone diameter is 9.5" and from what I can tell the old foam outer diameter was 11.5". The foams attach at the front of the down firing cones and are angled. I really can't wait to hear these beasts! I've been longing for a pair ever since hearing them at a buds place. I've been told by one reputable speaker shop that any original foams for them may be long gone and / or not worth installing as they would be dry. He suggested making new foams up from ones designed for another model. I just want to be sure I'm going down the right road here. Thanks to all.

I don't know who it is, I don't know that it's true.

Just passing it on. If it's true and you figure it out, maybe you will post it for the benefit of others.

Thanks for your quick response Coytee! I'll certainly post my solution assuming I find one. I was told that a shop in Ft Lauderdale ( unknown which one due to lost emails)... had the right foams but... not certain on that. Here's more pics of the woofer.

Does this version use the EQ? (do you have it?)

Have you actually HEARD them yet? I don't mean this pair pe se', but have you heard D's before or are you buying on reputation?

When I first had mine, I had them hooked to a Yamaha CR-2040 (something like 120/channel). I also had a 3bx, subharmonic synthesizer and an audio Control C-101 EQ.

When I hit the button on the CR to bring those into the loop, the system would just come alive. That subharmonic synthesizer added some room shake and I was always amazed at what they'd provide.

Don't know what you listen to but some good pipe organ is worthy of listening to.

Thanks Coytee; and yes this version uses the C/D EQ and there's a story to this one. I knew my buddy would have appreciated a back up EQ for his pair so .... when I saw one show up

in BC.. I notified him and he grabbed it. I wasn't thinking I'd ever get a pair of these to be honest. I had basically given up hope. When I told him I grabbed a pair he offered me the EQ...

He's a great guy and the whole experience with grabbing these beauties was very karmic.

I've certainly heard them before at my bud's place. The presence of these are unbelievable IMHO. The bass can be downright haunting (in a good way). The mid bass is very tight

and rich and the highs crisp and heavenly to boot. There's really very little to complain about with D's. I never understood why anyone would ever sell a pair once they owned them.

I lucked into a situation where a the seller's relative had recently deceased and the wife of the

receiver simply wanted them gone. They literally couldn't wait to just get them outta the house-

Lol. I don't get it - but I won't complain.

My plan is to first refoam and then check all the specs on the EQ and crossover before playing them. I really don't want to mess these up.

I listen to pretty much everything except "new country" so... yes some deep dark bass along with horns with pipes are certainly going to be appreciated on these.

Like most here on AK I've heard a lot of speakers but the low end on these are what stands out for me. I suppose I could turn my 4430's into 4435's and perhaps get close but...

I think it's a horseshoes and hand grenades sort of thing.

True story:

Back in the early 80's, mine were in the basement. I had the mentioned electronics hooked up to them.

I don't recall exactly what I was listening to but, it had a pipe organ.

So I was sitting on the couch, head leaning back. My head was actually resting on the wall that was behind the couch.

(did I first mention that I had it.....kinda loud?)

So here I am, just zoning out, listening to the LP. Suddenly, there was a very deep and loud passage.

Remember the 3bx and subharmonic synthesizer I mentioned?

Suddenly, my vision (actually) blurred. I recall it caused me to blink a bit because I didn't know what was happening...

Then I put it all together.

The wall that my head was leaning on vibrated enough that it "shook" (perhaps too strong of word) my head, causing the vision to blur a bit.

Frankly, I thought it was cool as hell once I realized what happened.

I always loved them more for their deep bass than their mid-bass. (I had a pair of Klipsch LaScalas (which I still own) that excelled in mid-bass)

Never did get around to trying to biamp them.

Did you try seller looney tunes on Ebay? I bought various foams from there before. I did mine years ago, but I forget where I got them from exactly. It was an online source, and the foams were pretty normal. Nothing too esoteric. Good luck!

I refoamed mine two years ago and I believe I bought the foams from Looney tunes as mentioned by absolve 2525 above.

I'm currently running mine with a Yamaha combo. c-70 pre and a B-2 amp and the results are spectacular. I've listened to a lot of high-end speakers over the last 40 years and I've got to say that the Interface D is a very special speaker system indeed.

Thanks everyone! I'll have to be careful not to rest my head too close to the walls ... lol. I don't plan on bi-amping them... they're loud enough as is for me with just one amp.

I emailed Rick Cobb earlier today and yes he's pretty sure he can help me. Rick has helped me for most of my JBL's. I'll be dropping back by to say if it works out. Thanks

Thanks audiomagnate! I got lucky for sure. Just wanted to update thread with what I found. Rick suggested trying a Jbl 128-h foam which I had on hand but it only had a 1/2" roll. That was the closest he had to my cone size. I really wanted to go with the original 3/4" foam roll. So I ordered my foams from Springfeild Speaker and crossed my fingers.

It got a little sloppy but it all worked out. I love these speakers! The soundstage is incredible and the bass will be wonderful for when I go deaf.... I'll still be able to feel the bass.
