EV S200 repair?

Wasn't sure where to put this... hoping "DIY" is the best choice. The EV S200 is(was) a popular choice for a cheapish, light-ish, portable 2-way passive PA cabinet back in the... 80s? 12" woofer.

A friend brought a pair of these over yesterday, indicating that one of them didn't work. The woofer cones moved freely, no scraping or resistance, no visible signs of compromise to spider, surrounds, or dust caps. I measured the resistance across the 1/4" input jack and found one that was pretty much wide open... around 6 megohms. The other speaker measured around 9 ohms. I pulled the woofer driver out of both speakers... the one from the 9 ohm cabinet measured about 6 ohms, which was about what I expected. The one from the wide open cabinet measured... wide open at 6 megohms... again, as I expected after the initial measurement.

Is there anything other than a burnt out voice coil that could cause this? Is there any way to repair the driver, since it otherwise seems in good shape (no magnet shifting, no cracks, etc)? I THINK I found a replacement driver at around $150, but I'm not positive it's a direct match. The number stamped on the driver is 812 0531 425.

Just trying to help a buddy out. Any tips/suggestions? Thanks!

I don't know what's in your area, but I have a shop near me called South Florida Speaker Repair that does reconing. I think I'd look into that before outright replacement.

Thanks, Ray. There is a shop that I do recall doing that kind of work in the area. Forgive the possibly dumb followup question... I thought reconing was usually a fix for when the driver did not move freely...scraping or stuck. Could it still fix whatever is ailing a free-moving but open circuit driver?
 
Reconing includes new coil.

If the driver is stuck or scraping, it is usually as a result of a damaged coil/former.

Same for your DC resistance issue.
