Ever heard of Chicken Shack?

similost

Rockin and Rollin....
Up until today and Pandora, I hadn't...

A 60's British band that plays some KILLER blues... I need to find some of their LP's. Looks like they had a lot, but it appears that their earlier years were their best..

Can you share anything about them or the best LP to find?

I know Christine Perfect was a member of Chicken Shack before she joined Fleetwood Mac and that Chicken Shack backed Danny Kirwan on a couple of his post-Fleetwood Mac albums. But I've not heard anything by the group.

An album that I picked up in high school, History of British Blues, had a cut or two from Chicken Shack, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Spencer Davis Group, Yardbirds, and many others. Here is some more information on it. It was indeed a terrific history lesson for fans of blues rock. Learning about it and other obscure music from the old hippie shoe store manager, were about the only fringe benefits of my high school job selling shoes (Until the saleslady's daughter started working there:yes:)

I just found it on Amazon.com

I saw a sealed copy of that album, last Sunday, at a little record show. I had to choose between two sealed Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green solo, and the compilation LP. Took 3 out of 4, and left the comp, as I already had most of the music on it.

I should call the dealer...

Ha!

I've SEEN Chicken Shack!!

I've told this story before, but here goes again..

Back in 1970 I saw them at a club in Milwaukee called The Scene; they opened for Savoy Brown, who was the reason I went. Well, they were pretty good killer Brit blues with a wild man on lead guitar named Stan Webb. No Christine Perfect at that point, but that was fine by me as I was (still am) enamored of guitar driven boogie and blues, so she might have been a distraction.

The irony of that show was that soon afterward Lonesome Dave, Roger Earl and Tone Stevens all left Savoy Brown to form Foghat, and Kim Simmonds recruited the bass player and drummer from Chicken Shack for Savoy Brown. Not quite sure what Stan did after that though.

Nice history lesson Andyman. The legacy of bands has always fascinated me. I still remember a flow chart of the "supergroups" that I saw years ago in Time Magazine. It traced groups like Buffalo Springfield, Poco, Byrds, CSN & Y, Hollies, & others.

Yes Iv heard of Chicken Shack lol Stan Webbs Chicken Shack. Seen him a few times here. Hes still going strong, drinks like a fish and plays a guitar like nobody's business. His voice is still strong, loud and unbelievable for his age. Good sense of humour aswell.

One or two of the guitarists later evolved into Savoy Brown. Check out Savoy Browns "Boogie Brothers" for details.

Where was "the scene" located?

Downtown Milwaukee, 600 something S. 2nd Street.
East of the river sort of near where The Stone Toad was.

How's that for dating one....:D

Have been to the Stone Toad, I Think. It had another name later on. Saw a band named "Charlie" there. Gone now. Grand Ave mall tore down a lot of those buildings.

I just looked at a map and it was west of the river; I'm sure it was on 2nd street probably just south of Wisconsin. It was the hip venue back in the day. I saw BB King and the Faces there too. Missed Hendrix and Cream though.

Got any old Kaleidoscopes hanging around? :D They might have an ad in it.
