Ever wanted to see whats going on inside of a Heathkit TT-1 tube tester?

I hope you didn't pay that much for that tube popper... I know of cheaper ways to ruin NOS tubes! :D

Glad you got her up and running Ron.:thmbsp: Sometimes things just "happen".:dunno:

Yep, but the concern is why? If we can't track it down it could happen again.

I'm thinking I might know what the problem was though. The first tube tested was a 6922. I got no reading whatsoever and it should of tested well.

The tube was tested on the main panel. If that tube should have been tested in the top (TT-1A) portion of the tester using the cord connections I might have stressed the tester. I need to go back and look to see if I was testing it correctly. Also, I have read that dependent on date of manufacture, the paper roll of tube testing settings could contain typos. This was resolved in later units but I think that I need to check the latest issue tube supplementals to make sure it matches the "wheel" info.

My Heathkit is back and I have been successfully testing tubes without incident.

After a thorough investigation, I believe the source of the problem has been identified. ><

I do remember having a tube in position while setting up for another. If I were to have had the leakage dial set to Tube Test, mains inadvertently engaged I would have been applying particular voltage to the wrong tube.

Note to self: Embrace the lengthy manual and don't mock it.

Speaken of **** and capacitors blowing up, I popped a BIG start cap on a refrigeration compressor once and nearly did....................in my pants.:D

The little one on the bias selector that blew shocked the heck out of me. I can only imagine what a big cap would sound like blasting off.
