What I'm always noticed.
People when purchasing a Marantz seem to want, expect a low price.
When then wanting to sell it now is top dollar.


Must be something about the brand changing ones mind....

I've been paying

2226B ~ $300
2238B ~ $350 - $400
2252B ~ $550
2270 ~ $700 ($1000 if mint)
2275 ~ $700 - $900
2330B ~ $1,000 (if in good shape, mint a bit more)

Are they being sold for more on ebay/reverb? Sure. People will always pay more for units in these sites and always pay more if they don't want to wait. But for people like myself that have no hurry in buying the prices above are attainable.

Again, these are prices I paid and I would be hard pressed to pay anything more for these.

No Marantz nearby, but there is a guy asking $4000 for a Kenwood KA-7100. That may sound like a lot, but you see it’s “pro restored”. Sounds like it includes an ego tax.

12 years ago I was picking up Matantz separates pretty cheap.
I bought a couple working 140 power amps one $100 and another for $200.
A model 16 power amp was $300
Two 1060 integrated amps for $100 and $250.
A scoped 120 tuner for $150.
A model 33 preamp was around $300.
A 115 tuner for around $100.
And a bunch of others for cheap including a 3300 preamp, 3200 preamp, 3600 preamp, a couple cassette decks, other tuners, power amps, etc.
A couple years ago I sold most of it off for a lot more. I had restored all of it.
My intention wasn't to flip any of it, but I did make some money out of the deal.

As much as I think the vintage receiver market is absurd I still would not mind getting my hands on the Citation receiver. (No, I am not paying $1k for one)

No way I'll pay those high prices for 70's SS audio equipment. I could use that same money to by a new Technics, or Yamaha, etc.
Most of my equipment is newer now. I've switched to tubes, but it's all from either new kits, bought complete, or I built it myself. What's not tube like my turntable, CDP, and even cassette deck, are all newer. The only "vintage thing in my main system is a Marantz 112 tuner I picked up cheap years ago.

4500 bucks for a 2385, that s a bargain. There is 2600 in canada for 26000usd and one in turkey for 19000usd. Wonder if they acccept 10% discount on cash? Rotfl.

Quite a bit. Relatively speaking, prices are generally pretty silly on both Marantz and Pioneer. On occasion, some Sansui runs below the radar.

It was a friend's 70s Marantz receiver that sucked me into this hobby, but my ears and fruegel ways led me in a different direction. I still get a warm feeling when I see that blue tuner dial light up.

I have no experience with Pioneer, but love the apparent build quality of those metal toggle switches that many models seem to have.

How does Pioneer compare sonically to Marantz and Sansui?

Not looking at marantz in the NoVA DC suburbs - too expensive for what you get.
I've got gorgeous sound with what I've got now - don't need a blue light for my ears!

High prices the same as ebay. There are a few shops near me that sell used audio equipment and it's all just as expensive as ebay and CL.
I don't do Facebook, so can't tell you there.
