Experimenting with some Allison CD7 Cabinets... Suggestions?

I've been looking for something to tinker around with and just won an auction for some Allison Acoustics CD7 cabinets in walnut. The crossovers are there and the seller says they work (will test when I get them). Looking for suggestions for what to load these cabs up with.

I'm not worried about originality, other than the fact that I really like the looks of these and don't want to seriously alter the overall appearance.

I had read that the Goldwood GW-8PC-30-8 8" Woofer might work with these pretty well, but I'll have to check the specs first. Another thought I've had is maybe looking for a coaxial speaker to outfit the front with and essentially make them a 3-way.

What do y'all think? Ideas... Suggestions... ?

I would think putting a Goldwood in an Allison speaker is somewhat akin to putting a Volkswagen engine into a Porsche 911(remember the 912?). Why not go for a better woofer? Parts Express has lots to choose from.

Allison made great stuff. At least give us a chance at the drivers if you are going to swap them out.

No drivers to swap out sealy, they're simply empty cabs w/ crossovers. I'm just looking for something to load them up with and experiment and have some fun.

If the original drivers were with the cabinets I'd be all about keeping them original!

I can't argue with your Volkswagen/Porsche analogy. You're probably right about going for a better woofer right up front too... I've been guilty way too much in the past of pinching pennies up front only to spring for the good stuff later on anyway!

Ah, sorry I misconstrued. Just checked the Parts Express site. If you want to get some really good 8 in. woofers, check out the Vifa woofer at PE. I've got some in my Angstroms and can vouch for their quality and excellent sound. They aren't cheap at $60 bucks apiece, but they are worth it. Also, check out the Morel neo 1 in. dome tweeter and the Vifa dual concentric tweeter. You would be able to cross over quite low to both these tweeters. Prices: $30-$40 apiece. With those beautiful cabinets and $200 worth of drivers, you might have speakers to rival or even better the original Allisons.
