Jay I hope you aren't offended by the picture. I think those "neandrathals" serve and protect their nation ( and ours too) If it wasn't for those brave men and women we'd be goose stepping down Main St. If they get a thrill out of displaying their emotions then so be it.BTW my grandfather served in WWI and my dad in WWII so I'm well versed in the horrors of war. I do take offense to referring to military members as neandrathals.

Pro Ac Mike, your point is well taken. I spoke out of annoyance. I'm not some kind of "condemn the troops" Jane Fonda type. My beef is with Imperialism. I hate the idea of the US pushing other countries around (including Canada) and playing some kind of Globocop, like a sort of reconstituted Roman empire.
In short, I admire the common soldier but despise the cheap belligerance of venal politicians.

If the US didn't police the globe you would have more Nazi Germanies and Imperialistic Japans and lets not forget what the Russkies woulda done if allowed too. I wish my country could just leave the world alone and worry about ourselves but I believe two world wars have shown the folly of isolationism.
The same is true of the Iraq's of the world.
You did notice 1990 they invaded a neighboring country, and killed thousands of it's citizens?? Saudi Arabia was next... and then?
Japan invaded all of Asia in the 1930's, and Germany took over Europe at the same time. Russia took over eastern Europe after WWII. it goes on and on......
How about Mr. Bin Laden? Should we have just let his wrecking crew kill thousands more?? All over the world?
What would Canada be like if there were no police? Would it be safe for Jay to travel anywhere he felt like it in Canada?
Unfortunatly, the simple fact is, due to the infalibilities of human nature, we require some sort of "police" in the world, or the scum of the world will make it difficult for the rest of us.

By the way, my wifes cousin was until recently, the communications officer for the Kitty Hawk carrier, while it was in the Pacific.
He was top in his class in high school, and graduated from Univ of Missouri with honors, has post graduate degree. Went right into the navy, has wife and three beautiful kids. .... hardly a Neanderthal.

Having had family that did not make it out of germany during WWII I can say that I wish that no one (cept maybe Donald/herman ) go through anything like that ever again ! I may be in the Minority but I believe in what our president is doing. If we dont do something about terrorism now it will become a very real threat to out citizens on their home soil again..

come on boys... you really haven't bought the line that it's about terrorism, have you? It's pay back for Texas Oil industry - it was 10 years ago with daddy and it is again now.... I don't want any part of it. We are just out there bullying the world and that doesn't do anything but make it unsafe for all of us.

I agree wiuth you Angela.
I think the US should not go around messing around with each country's sovereignity. Many times conflicxts can last for a LONG time, but if there is no monetery interest the US doesn't intervene (e.g. Several conflicts in Africa, Kosovo, etc.) I think the US should not intervene this time, they are just bullying because of the oil.
I also think what differentiates a CIVILIZED nation and a bully is that there should be DIPLOMACY, not just showing you have big guns and they will be pointed at you if you don'0t do what you're told.
All of this of course IMHO
