Fair price for JBL L77's?

Okay. Since I think I could drive these okay with my Marantz 1060. What do you guys suggest is a fair price for a pair of L77's?

I've been emailing back and forth with the guy, they are local and he had them on CL about a month ago and hasn't re-posted them since, but they never sold. He says that $225 is his bottom dollar, but I think he'd come down a bit more.
Here are the pics below. They appear to be in pretty good shape, but one of the passives has been replaced. I would probably just use them as-is for now while watching the 'bay for a replacement stock passive to make them correct again. He has owned them for 6 years and is the second owner. They were purchased from Speaker Works in Tulsa, OK. They were re-foamed about 2 years ago. He lists them as 1973.

What should I look for if I go look at them? Don't pull any punches... I'm a newb and other then overall condition I don't know what tell-tail signs I should watch for.

My honest advice: PASS
I had a pair of L77 in super rough shape which I sold for $200. They just don't sound that great IMO. I would save that $200 and keep looking (especially since these are missing one passive).

If you are set on checking them out, make sure the foam replacement is well done and that both tweeters work.

Looks like one of the grills has some stains. If you do get them and want to replace the grill, let me know. I think I have an extra one in decent shape lying around.

I just got a pair for $100 as an adjunct to an eBay purchase of something else. They are completely original, all drivers intact; yellow borders on the woofer and radiator cones. Missing one snap cap on a binding post; no grill badges. Grills otherwise perfect, a few small scratches and dings--7.5 on 10 scale.

Also, you might check them for consecutive serial numbers. $200 looks like that is quite near the part-out value for a pair of these--so that price seems fairly premium. A "perfect" un-restored pair did price for $450 on ebay within the last month--don't recall however, if they actually sold.

Thanks for your advice guys. At this point I've decided to pass on these. I think I could spend my money on something that I know, from reading on AK, will pair well with my little 1060.

Considering he listed them a month ago and hasn't sold them yet, I'll wait until after I'm in Dallas next week and hunt down there and see if I can't find something.

Who knows, maybe he'll e-mail me back and really want them out of his way. If I could get them for about $100 - 150 I'd feel okay about giving them a spin.
