Fair price: Marantz 32 amplifier and 33 preamplifier

A friend of a friend is selling a few pieces of vintage Marantz gear that I have the chance to demo, and I'm hoping to get a sense from the community on what a fair price would be:

- Marantz 32 amplifier
- Marantz 33 pre-amplifier

Cosmetically, the 33 looks clean, while the 32 has maybe $150 (and my time) worth of simple work that even I'd feel confident doing to get it looking good. No wood cases on either. Finally, I'm sure they'd both benefit from some internal work given their age, but both of them are in "working" condition. The seller wants $700 for both.

What are y'all seeing these go for? I'm not trying to rob the guy, but I'm also not in the biggest rush to get into separates.

A general rule of thumb is to check completed/sold listings not current for sale listings on sites such as Reverb, Hifishark and of course Ebay Which is were most of us find pricing. Fwiw there are a handful (33 pre ) on ebay and in various descriptive conditions I'd start there

"Working" condition means different things to different people. I've seen ads and I'm paraphrasing stating "plugged it in, it turned on and is working" That's like looking at a car firing it up and with out driving it stating it's working never mind the tranny and or brakes could be shot.

The good thing is you can demo so you'll be able to see and listen in person

I was aware of comping things via eBay's 'sold' filter, but I don't know how I missed that feature on the other two – thank you for highlighting that. It's helpful.

Ohhh yes – I've been shocked by what some folks define as working. "Sure, it powers on – but you didn't think to hook it up to a pair of speakers?" Thankfully, this person isn't far (and, from a short video, I know that these at least put out sound).
