Man, you really know how to kick a guy in the knee, Chris. Brutal, brutal I tell ya. And I'm only $1300 short. :D

sorry dave but at least your closer in the funds department than me .look at the bright side you have 5 days and 15hrs left to come up with the rest:D

Some parts have been replaced, noticeably the multi-section cap. Price is way too high, I think.

My question for gear like this is why doesn't someone copy the circuit design and start making clones? It can't be more than like $200 in parts and then you could turn around and sell 'em for a grand a pop...

It's a collectible, the whole is more than the sum of the parts. Any preamp someone else makes would be a Fairchild 145 clone and it's value would probably be less than the sum of the parts because random mono stuff has value vanishingly close to zero.

I'm wondering why he would direct people to an Ebay BIN sale from his Audiogon ad. Does Audiogon have more than just a listing fee now?

That Ebay final value fee and paypal fees can amount to some real money.

I would gladly accept paying EBay fees if I got twice as much as they have historically sold for - and that being a little generous.

I would wager that EBay's fees are cheaper than Audiogon in the end, or he wants a quick high sale and the Agon ad will bring the flies.
