Had a great time Saturday. The weather was postcard perfect, 60 degrees, sunny, no wind except right on the beach for the kite flying festival. The only thing better was the gracious nature of the hosts.
Skiing Ninja Sean was there and finally got meet in person. His upgrade crossover business is exploding way beyond AV123 speakers. he is a dealer for Onix speakers and brought along a pair of Reference 3's with his crossover. Paired with some Modwright gear they sounded great in even with the challenges of the room.
Jim Salk was there demonstrating his soon to be released HT4's, HT3's and HT2's. Late in the afternoon the guys hauled out the Song Towers from his trailer. The HT4's are really something. The bass response kept me from feeling two cell phones as it was set to vibrate. Unfortunately I missed hearing the other HT's. The Salk speakers were powered by Van Alstine gear, a very nice combination sourced by a Squeezebox. I can't go without mentioning that Jim and his wife are fine people without airs.
Aperion Audio came with four staff members, including chief engineer Ken Humphreys. Fascinating to hear him talk, and humble enough to appreciate the sound of other manufacturers present. Aperion raffled off a pair of 6B monitors in cherry. The winner was Skeeter.
Got a chance to listen to the new budget brand EMP speakers from RBH. The mini floorstanders play damn good for $400. The consensus was they sounded far better than another brand present that I won't mention.
Upstairs during and right after lunch, SVS had a nice setup include a pair of their beastly subwoofers that were demoed right after lunch. I missed that as Sean and a few others were enjoying an after lunch beer in the driveway.
Thanks to the Audioholics store for providing a delicious catered lunch. Just wish I could be there today to hear Jim Salk's talk.
Sorry no pics, hopefully others, especially major loser will post.
