A lot of good shows have already been mentioned. Too hard to pick one, but some I would add:

Magnum, P.I. (Rockford Files and Columbo would fit in here too)

The Good Life (called Good Neighbors in the U.S.) -- a short-lived British comedy from the late 70's. It used to air on my local PBS station a long time ago.
Star Trek TNG (Picard > Kirk)

curiously, the main character, Joel, was a bit off-putting to me and not only because the character was written to be that way. so for a long time I had no interest in the series. but getting to know all of the other characters, quirky, loveable, flawed as they are, more than made up for any screen time relegated to the main guy

Joel stood in juxtaposition to the quirky characters. That show wouldn't have worked without him.
 
Mets - Yankees - NY Giants - Jets games. Mets & Giants #1, Jets & Yankees #2. That's really about it. I did enjoy The Sopranos but have seen enough of it. Other than that, everything else sucks.
