I just hooked up my Technics SL-D20 TT to my Sansui 6060 and it sounds great but i am getting feedback whenever i get close or touch the tone arm, LP, or platter. I am not sure what could be going on. I have double checked all the connections and am at a loss. Any ideas?

If the ground wire is hooked up, try unhooking it. Sometimes this works, but can't figure out why? - Perhaps ground loop?

Here's a little something to try...........attach an extra ground wire to the preamp ground post and the other end hold in you hand. See what happens.
Does the ground hum get louder? Does it go away?
 
Hi GWH, I also have a Technics SL-D20, to get rid of the static problem I put a sheet of Fleecy static remover that we use in the dryer under the rubber mat, since then static free. As for the hum I very recently started having a problem since I put some quality interconnects between my turntable and receiver, before that I was using very basic interconnects and had no hum. I noticed that if I unplug the cables that are plugged in the aux out (next to the phono out) I get less hum. Also a few years back I did have a hum problem with the tt and I changed the ground cable and moved it around into the ground plug in the tt and all hum went away.

I was unaware of a ground plug for this TT. It is not grounded and that is the most likely source of the hum and static. What could I use for a replacement? I had tried a GLI but the hum persisted. Thank you all for your "feedback".
 
If its a typical Technics ground type thing, you'll likely find a hole on the back next to the RCA jacks for the ground. What I did to make one was take a cheap RCA plug, yank the outer ring part off to leave just the center pin, and soldered a wire to the center pin to use as a ground. I've also heard of people using pieces of solid 12ga copper wire as the plug part and a thinner piece of stranded wire as the ground lead.

Hi GWH, I use a 14ga speaker wire and it fits in the plug at the back of the TT next to the red jack input, the other end connects to the tt ground at the back of your receiver.
