Anyone signed up with them? Or gotten any of their releases?

It sounds interesting. Kind of a music of the month club for indie rock bands of various types.

I'm considering signing up for a couple months but I'm always leery of 180 gram stuff just looking to see if anyone has gotten anything from them.

Well I was going to sign up for the free month but you can't use paypal only credit cards. I guess so they can auto bill you.

I still don't get how they are going to do returns. I can see them getting ripped off constantly by people coping the record and then sending it back claiming they don't like it. It's not like a book or stamps or any other number of monthly clubs where the stuff you send back they can resell again. They get a record back it's a used record of a band nobody ever heard of and nobody cares about. Their is no used market value.
 
This is cool. They're pretty cheesy about it but I like the idea in general.

I'm considering a subscription. I like most kinds of music today, and I doubt they'll pick anything too 'out-there'.. just hope I don't get sent any rap.
 
However, if they're just slapping the tracks that the band has already recorded onto a record there's a pretty good chance of hit-or-miss SQ

I have a feeling they are doing just that. They don't come right out and say it but that is what they are doing. Just being a middle man to making a record. That also means that most of these bands probably already have CDs and stuff available.
 
I got my free record today. I'm listening to it now, and the music is really good.. but the transparent orange vinyl has a little spittyness once a revolution in spots, the recording itself sounds..compressed I guess? Thin definitely.

Sort of a shame because the music is very enjoyable and I really like the idea of receiving a new record every month. Maybe I can get in contact with them and tell them what they've done right and wrong. Anyone else get their record yet?

EDIT: I feel like I was expecting WAY too much SQ-wise. As I got further into the first side I relaxed a little and the music became much more enjoyable

Side two has LOUD spits and defects once a revolution.

I gave em a call and they're going to ship me a new copy free of charge. He says that no one else has reported problems (although I could see someone else my age thinking that the noise was normal for vinyl)

I talked to him a little while and told him that it might be a good idea to be mindful of how the band recorded and the mastering process they have used and to shy away from slapping a digital recording onto vinyl and calling it good. I think he appreciated the feedback.

Hopefully my new copy is free of problems

It's cool hopefully they listen but honestly I doubt it. They aren't in the business of making music they are in the business of being the middle man. Doing something that the band could if they knew a bit more. I'm still interested though but I don't have a credit card.

Looks interesting, but I don't go for that "free month stuff". MY school of thought as applies to me is "you either want it or you don't." "free month", "tiral period" and all that stuff has so many strings attached you end up getting strangled. The Auto-payment thing is the worst gotcha ever! I never do auto-payment anything.
It's like I did with MOG - I made a deal with them to start paying immeadately when I signed up, waiving the "free month".
 
I got the impression that my feedback would really do some good. I felt like what I was saying was really being taken into consideration. I hope to stay in correspondence with these guys.

This is obviously a very small operation, and it seems they have good intentions. I don't know why some of you feel like they're out to bill you for a bunch of stuff. I am open minded enough about music to take a $20 chance once a month-- I spend more than that weekly on stuff that I might not like or even bother to listen to
 
This sounds pretty good, but I hate the fact that they keep the band names secret for some reason. If they are good records you shouldn't need to do that.

I recently chose to sign up for the "Sounds of Levitation" Record Club from the Reverb Appreciation Society. They put on the annual Austin Psych Fest, and have great bands on their label. For $175 you get each new release as it comes out, 10 LPs in total for the year, shipping and one label t-shirt included. I love the music they put out so it's a hell of a deal for me.

Some releases are color vinyl, others have handmade tipped-on sleeve art, etc. - digital files included.

I got a copy of unknown relatives - 2 on orange vinyl. Not the greatest mastering job but I imagine it would have been mastered like that as kind of a lofi thing. The record is actually really good. I love the music! Unfortunately being in the NZ the cost of the records plus shipping is kinda high (around $40 NZ per release) and I can get a known record for less than that that I really want. So although I love the idea it was just too steep for me to continue.

Wish they had a list of the releases they have pressed on vinyl so I could investigate the bands, and perhaps a way to purchase the releases I like?

I got in! With the June record The Vliets,followed by the Coo Coo Birds in July, and now The Wild Ones for August... So far so good. I find this an interesting occasional purchase, as so few things in life are much of a (good) surprise. In vinyl purchasing, like in the heyday of mom and pop shops, when I would flip through a bin (or hundreds of them) and if something looked interesting, toss it in the stack (of course at that time, records cost what media mail costs now). I miss those days. With Fb the bands are interesting, the production is fine, the pressing are of good quality as to be expected from limited boutique runs, and the # certificate is a thoughtful addition. I've started taste testing and voting for up coming bands with their iPhone app, also a nice element of the deal.

And just been us, I've always had a bit of a weakness for marbled, faded, or etched vinyls.:yes:

I bumped this thread instead of making a new one. Do any of you posters still have this subscription? I was thinking about doing this but had major concerns with the mastering/ recording qualities.
