Kind of a long story and wasn't sure where to post. I'm new to posting on the forum (have used it as a resource plenty) and have always used a low budget setup at home. I've had and really enjoyed an HK 730 paired with kef Carlton iii's. Audio is either coming from my technics 1200 mkII or computer via a little FiiO Taishan D3 DAC.
Been pretty satisfied with that for quite a while, but recently I bought a system from a wealthy guy that I do some freelance work for. He got divorced and was downsizing. He had his audiophile friend put together the system for him 3 years ago and I don't think that it was used too much. He had an MC275 and C2500 preamp, as well as a pair of refurbished kef 107 speakers. He offered it at a ridiculous price if I took it all together and got it out of the house that was in escrow asap. I couldn't really afford it, but I made it happen by selling the MC275 right away. The speakers are too big for my space I think, so they're stashed for now, but I hooked up the C2500 using the 730 as a power amp with the Carltons. It sounds pretty damn great to my ears, but for what the preamp is worth, I figured I could upgrade the whole system to maybe some integrated tube amp, possibly find some better speakers? Was thinking of just keeping the pre and upgrading to a citation 12 for power as well, but I almost feel like that preamp is too nice for me and the rest of my system. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks.
