I wish Stephanie Gaynor would post more often. I've met her a couple of times (I bought some stuff from her locally), and she's a nice lady, very knowledgable.

Sure - no problem!

I was a quiet audio owner for many years. I worked at the campus radio station when I was in college.
They had JBLs and I like the way music sounded through them in the studio.
So right after college, I bought (new) a Yamaha CR400, Philips 212 TT and a pair of JBL L36 speakers.
I had them for many years

But a friend pointed me at an eBay auction for a pair of JBL 4320 speakers about 5 years ago, and I won them for about $300!

They were 1971-era 2 ways with 15 inch woofers, and horn drivers for the mids ... MUCH different than the L36s I'd listened to for so long ... Jazz sounded amazing through those horns, but I could tell they were lacking in the highest frequencies.

I had started reading the Lansing Forums to learn more about them, and found that JBL had made a 3 way system with similar speakers, so I got a pair of the slot tweeters they used in the JBL 3 ways, built new crossovers for them, and upgraded them.

They sounded better, but the 4320s were chipped up and polycoated, and I liked the look of the L200 cabinets (see my avatar), so I found a pair of those cabinets locally and moved the drivers into those boxes.

Over time I got better woofers, replaced the metal horns for wooden horns,
and even got a pair of magneplanars last summer when I heard them! Wow!

I do have at least one pair of (big) speakers I need to sell off - but I like playing music with good sound.

Is that a good start for you??

He's probably tired of talking to guys that probably resemble your avatar (no offense to you of course)! (hehe)

Though Rob's original post is a bit "male", it is a nice reminder that there are ladies present here on AK and we enjoy treating them as such. I know I'm guilty of thinking of this as a male site and it wouldn't hurt my feeling if the ladies reminded us they are around. No matter what, us guys will be guys when we think we are gender isolated. It doesn't mean we don't respect or feel women are equals in our passion for music reproduction thru audio equipment or on any other level for that matter. We're glad you are here. john

That's a great price for the 4320's, and a big leap (from L36 to 4320, and from cones to horns). Here's hoping you find your musical bliss. :music:

What kind of music do you prefer to listen to? How was your experience at the college radio in terms of music or audio growth?

I'm not female, but I have an incredibly feminine side to me when it comes to emotions. Does that count?

Please remember that there are others who are not Subscribers or Members are lurking on this board. I don't blame the ladies for keeping a low profile.
