Fender Acoustisonic Jr opinions?

I just got my first pit orchestra gig on guitar (usually play cello), and I have to play both electric and acoustic guitars. I'm pretty much set with electric guitar amps, but I've always used the PA with my acoustic (Crafter D7/N) through its K&K pickup and outboard preamp. For this gig I need an acoustic amp which means... shopping!! :banana:

I'm looking at a Fender Acoustisonic Jr. tomorrow at a great price. Anyone use/heard this amp? Preliminary web searches seem to say that it's a great amp for the price (especially the price I'm getting).

I have one...probably 10 years old...does not have the DSP that current models have...I bought it primarily as a PA-in-a-box for open-mic/acoustic gigs...for acoustic guitar and/or vocals, it does a really nice job - although you do still need to be aware of placement and set-up to deal with any feedback issues (but if you are using it solely for guitar, that shouldn't be much of a problem).

It was a bit more expensive than some of the other options out there at the time...but I tried a couple of the other amps, and felt that the Acoustasonic Jr was a better amp. I don't know if I would drop $500 for a new one, but if you are getting a really good deal on one, then I think you will be pleased.

This amp is NOT a good electric guitar amp.
 
I tried the Fender out at a Guitar Center and much preferred the sound of a SWR Strawberry Blonde which I purchased. Not a fan of all the electronic effects in the Fender. The SWR California Blonde is even nicer if you need more power. I'd suggest going to Guitar Center or alike & try them out first.

EDIT: I use the SB with my P-Bass and it sounds very good. I like it with my 6 string electrics as well.

Well I picked it up today and just got done dialing in my tone settings. It's the same one as yours, bebopdeluxe, no DSP, just reverb and chorus (not like I would use the DSP anyway). Cosmetically it's kind of rough, hence the low price. Everything works though.

For the price I paid ($360 less than what the new ones are listing for), it's a great deal. I haven't played too many acoustic amps, but I know what my guitar sounds like, and that's what I want an amp to sound like. Once I dial in the feedback notch, I can turn it up to 10 with no feedback, even a few feet away. The sound isn't jaw-droppingly spectacular, but very serviceable and not harsh.

I tried both straight into the amp, and with my belt-clip preamp. The preamp definitely cleans the sound up, but if I was in a pinch I'd feel ok just going straight in.

I plugged in a mic and it sounds I guess like what you would expect; I'm not really going to be using the mic a whole lot.
 
Good to hear. For that price, hard to complain...it is not a tone that will set the world on fire, but certainly loud and servicable for working applications.
