Ferrograph 424 reel to reel

Can't complain there. Is there a market for these units? Or is it useful for parts?

Let's try. To answer the OP's question, the Ferrograph 424 was planted firmly in the midst of Ferrograph's reign of Great Britain for studio use and "hifi enthusiast" homes. Value, not great today, but they are still quite popular with collecters. Of course, it was a tube machine.

All this is just a thinly disguised opportunity to show my Ferrograph Series Seven, the first transistorized Ferrograph. I found some better pictures, albeit taken with one of my wife's more jaunty quilts in the background.
Innovative features for a tape recorder back in 1968, such as:
. Variable Bias
. Variable wind / rewind (killer fast)
. Sound on Sound recording (well, it had three heads, of course)
. Echo facilities (see above)
. Ability to match input / output levels for correct monitoring of the recording
All this and the only R2R I know of with 8 3/4" reels.
It's shown in the pictures with a 7" reel on it, later I bought a few 8 3/4" ones, much nicer looking, and they still fit on even with the dust cover in place.
I should have taken a shot with the bottom door open, showing all the less-frequently used controls, such as bias, input/output level matching, tape monitor switches for each channel independantly, and even bass and treble, which affected the low-level outputs for quick and dirty on the spot EQ jobs.
All this and 10 WRMS per channel with built-in speakers? Fun, wow!
