Field coil speaker

Are field coil speakers worth anything or are they commonly junked to be replaced with permanent magnet speakers?

This is a 10" out of a big console radio. The cabinet is long gone - someone took it in the '70s to convert it to a bar, but the receiver chassis and speaker still linger on.

Or does the speaker only have value if kept with the chassis, which I still have but it's in storage 300 miles away.

Some models can certainly have value. Is that 'RL-62-1' the only numbers on it anywhere?

There was one identified as RCA on ebay not to long ago. Is that the same one?

EDIT: Nope, it was a different one but identical speaker. It didn't sell for the asking price but you might want to take a look at the listing before it disappears.

cubby01, thanks for the link. That's the same model as mine, except mine is stamped S2 instead of S3. The connections are different - mine has terminals and the S3 model on eBay has a socket.

I don't know much about field coil speakers. It appears most go for small money or don't even sell unless they were used in a theater. Then they go for over $2000. There must be some collectors who are into the theater rigs.

I guess to know what I really have, I need mate it with the receiver again and check for combined worth.

Field coil speakers alone are not a great deal but keep the power supply with it and sell it as a set. The speaker needs the power supply to work.
