Filthy 2245

I recently purchased a Marantz 2245 off E-bay. Unit works well but is absolutely filthy on the inside. I am on Catrafter wait list to have refurbished but that could be a year or two away. Is there anything a novice can safely do to clean the insides up until Catrafter can work his magic? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Vacuum it out using a soft paint brush to loosen the dust. Be gentle so you don't bend any components. Metal and plastic can be cleaned with soft rags and Q-tips using non-ammonia Windex. Circuit boards can be cleaned with Q-tips and at least 91% isopropyl alcohol. How far you want to go is up to you.

Couple of things you can do: Blow out the dust with a can of compressed air and/or vacuum the inside. Using a small (1 inch) soft paint brush dipped lightly in alcohol swab the boards and chassis. Be careful not to use too much alcohol. There are other things you can do like using a metal polish but I'd leave it at alcohol for now. Clean the controls and switches with DeoxIT. Leave the tuner fins alone except to blow them out with compressed air. Let it dry for an hour or so and you should have a cleaner, better smelling receiver that has no static on the controls.

Blow out dust with your lungs. Use your hands to pour alcohol (or window cleaner) on tissue, and then move your hands to the tissue and grab it. Wipe the insides with the tissue, also using your hands.
