Filthy gear being sold on e-bay??

I....just....don't....get....it??
I can't tell you how astonished I am at the outright stupidity and laziness of some e-bay sellers!?
How many times have you viewed a CD player, receiver, or amp....and seen it covered with crap?
Dust even....just dust?
I mean jeez....it would take all of 10 seconds....to run a clean rag over it!
If a seller can't even wipe dust off a receiver to make it look nicer (and sell at a higher price)....do you really expect him/her to take the time and effort to pack it up properly?

I certainly don't!

Well, on the flip side, hamfisted cleaning can do more harm than good (e.g., cleaning the dial markings off of a vintage receiver or tuner).

While I agree, it can also lead to some buyer deals, which I'm all in favor of.

The ad must have expired. I was going to put up a pic of a Yamaha R-something or A-something, the ones with the brushed silver knobs, that was out there from an i-sold-it store (worst packers ever.) Looked like it had been in a diesel repair garage or something. Talk about filth.

In the case of consignment store sales, is that the owner's fault, or the store's for not suggesting they might actually get more for it if it was cleaned up a little?

what really astonishes me is how everyone here knows everyone reads AK forums and what do we do..we teach them how to get more of OUR money...please wise up

Just my .02 here, but i'd much rather buy used gear that's dirty/filthy than have to pay the "premium" for it because someone spent 2 minutes with some windex and paper towels to tidy it up a bit.

After you buy a few pieces of tube gear that have had the lettering wiped clean of the tubes, you'll understand how layers of dust and crud can be beneficial.

Many times the crud layer is irrefutable evidence that the unit hasn't been "tinkered" with.

Of course if you're talking about gear that's represented to be in proper working order/plug n play, and/or priced at or near the top of it's game, then it can be a different story.

Just my .02 y'all understand........................

...

Bought a pre that had, of all things, chocolate finger prints on it.

Of course, I got it for about half of what it normally goes for.

And, it tasted real good.
