My daily driver is a 2325 that I did all of the usual rebuilds to every board on. It looks great in it's WC43 case and pumps out the classic rock that I mostly listen to without breathing hard. You're going to love it.

That is a nice receiver. But, me/myself (since I am a Pioneer guy) would not have gotten rid of an SX1250 for it. Now, keep both of them, that I would do.

Nice sideways move between my two favorite brands. I would expect the Marantz to have a bit warmer sound from what I have read. Also, Pioneer had killer FM tuner sections back then, and for us FM guys that was their ace in the hole. Don't know about the Marantz.

I would probably keep them both too.

When you reach this level of vintage audio gear, Assuming it is operating close to spec, You need to spend some serous coin to make a noteworthy improvement in SQ. We're talking separates here, and even then, there is no guarantee.

Sideways moves can offer an improvement due to system synergy. More different than better. Good luck.

I prefer the warmer sound, I already have a 2230. As for tuner, there are virtually no radio stations worth a damn to pull in. Those I do listen to are available via streaming, which my main rack is connected to.

I've been rockin' my trusty SX 737 for years...just came across a like new 4270 w/box and manual for $100 from a co-worker's father, I get it this weekend. Pretty pumped.

I've had a number of Pioneer stereos and two of the SX-1250's. My personal favorites were the SX-750 and SX-730, or was it the 730?? Either way I always liked the smaller Pioneer stereos much better. Even with the Marantz stereos I always leaned towards the smaller ones, except with the 2325. That stereo seemed to have gotten something right in capturing the quality of the smaller units with the power of the bigger units.

Enjoy and post your review and comparisons.

I prefer the 2325 over the Pioneer units of similar power. All the pieces I played were fully restored so an even playing field. The other thing i personally like about the Marantz pieces is they have the MPX filter, mid range adjustment and the Dolby reduction which Pioneer did not offer. Lastly, just me, I like the look a bit better. That being said, Pioneer made some outstanding receivers as well. Nice problem to have!
