Finally, Some New Releases I Can Look Forward To

This has been the slowest year for buying new music for me in 5 or 6 years. And, of what little I have bought, none of it has knocked me out. This month, looks like the horizon may be getting brighter.

In addition to the Magnolia Electric Company multi-disk set mentioned elsewhere by Opt, this month also has new titles coming from Subdudes, Lyle Lovett, Waterboys, Josh Ritter, and Linda Thompson. I pre-ordered the Ritter and Thompson disks yesterday. Looks like the credit card is going to take a hit.

Damn, Alan. I may end up with enough to make a year end Top 10 List after all (but not the usual Top 20). Nina Nastasia and Jim White seem like an odd pairing, but could be interesting.

Lyle's got a new one coming out? Cool...I can dig me some Lyle! Thanks for the heads up, tentoze.

The rest of the list just really holds little appeal to me. Just one person's opinion, now. Everyone's entitled to one.

Don't know if you have heard the new Gourds' album, Noble Creatures, but I think you would like it.

I'm curious what you mean by "which Ben Harper" -- I presume you mean something like the incoherent one and the coherent one, but wouldn't mind some examples of which is which, in your mind.

Hasn't he been sober for awhile since getting married?
Or does he still smoke out?

Just always seemed to me he couldn't make his mind up where his real musical interests lay. The most obvious example to me is Diamonds On The Inside- some great music and I like it, but it puts me off a bit because of all the different styles of music that keep the album from coalescing as a whole work.

LYLE LOVETT & HIS LARGE BAND, It's Not Big It's Large (Lost Highway)

Lost Highway produced Willie Nelson's ~ You Don't Know Me The Songs of Cindi Walker and that CD has so much compression on it that it simply is no fun to listen to. I made a mental note not to buy from them unless I heard the CD first. The older stuff from Lost Highway seems to be produced quite well. Thought you would want me to speak-up on this subject.
