First Guitar

Yeah, you don't want to know what we were buying and selling them for in the early 80's.

Kind'a shocking to ponder, isn't it? I remember a time when the only "really expensive" geetars were (prewar) Martin D45, '58-59 Gibson Vs and the original series Gibson Explorer.... and even origibal series Vs and Explorers could be had for a reasonable sum if you dug around some. Those prewar D45s went up fast and never came down, though they did not go on to climb nearly as high as '58-59 Burst, Vs or Explorers. But I am preaching to a preacher. :beerchug: All in all, we kind'a had it all, didn't we?

PS: The exception being all those tasty amps we let slip away.

There is a simple flow chart for scientifically determining the exact amount of practicing you need:

I will have to agree with Mystic 110% Your kid wants to play electric, buy an electric.
A guitar is a guitar, NOT. Each type serves a specific purpose.
If your kid wanted to play flute would you get him a tuba?
You wouldn't hand Segovia a Strat and Marshall amp.

Hi all,

My eight year old son has expressed an interest in learning to play the electric guitar.

I'm looking for suggestions as to what would be a good setup (gearwise) for him considering his age. Looking to keep the cost under 300.00 total.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

So Ed, if you ever did procure a geetar, that thing's semi-vintage by now. Huzzah!
