Hi all. Just wanted to finally say hello and thank you all so much for all the information I was able to find over the years I have really been getting into the audio stuff.

A little bit about me: Originally born and raised in New Orleans. LA. 41 years old with a wife and kid and been in cybersecurity for my entire career.

Regarding my “hobby” - It’s really, really started to get out of hand with my obsession with tweaking, optimizing, upgrading, or even rebuilding vintage speakers, analog processors, amps, etc. from the ground up in some cases.

My wife is tired of seeing the soldering iron in the living room, but it’s nice to get her nod of appreciation when she hears the before and after in some cases.

Heres a list of my projects I’ve finished so far:

Bose 301 Series 1 - refoamed woofer surrounds, recapped with Mundorf EVOs, added Mundorf air core inductor, reinsulated cabinets with open cell foam and new polyfill, all internal wiring upgraded to 14awg. Sounds great. They belong to my dad. First and only owner. Paired up with a Mitsubishi/Onkyo RA-17 amp that I performed some serious deep cleaning on with deoxit red and green, and recapped the power caps with Cornell Dubiliers.

Bose 301 Series V - These were my first “big boy” speakers when I turned 18 and I jammed the hell out of them for years with an original Martin Logan Dynamo subwoofer that I got cheap during a Black Friday sale back in 2004.

I just finished gutting the internals and redoing everything, again adding a 1st order low pass filter with a Dayton audio air core inductor, and swapped the stock Nichicon caps for an Audyn Q4 and a Mundorf EVO. Also upgraded the stock wiring to 14awg. You can most definitely tell a significant difference from the original design versus having the low pass filter in place. The woofer is so much tighter and responsive. Almost reminds me of KRK Rokit 8’s.

I usually take a lot of pictures when I start a new project, and I document the hell out of everything that I do, so always feel free to ask me any questions about any of my builds.

I have plans for a pair of my Bose 10.2 Series 2 towers, and I’ve been looking for some ideas for my Bose 901 Series 1 speakers as well.

My other previous projects have been restoring the following:

Crown DC-300A
Phonic MAX 1500
DBX 3BX Series 1
DBX 120XP
DBX 120
Kenwood M1D
Crown PowerTech 3

My pride and joy, and quite frankly the most frustrating project I’ve been working on lately is restoring and completely revamping my pair of Cerwin Vega DX-9’s. The build process has been meticulously documented, and warrants its own dedicated post. However, I’ll toss in a sneak peak of the new crossover towers im almost finished building for them. Would love to know what you guys think!

Anyway, looking forward to making new friends and learning more about my newfound obsession.

P.S. I’m always on the hunt on eBay for vintage audio stuff, so if anyone finds a deal on an Aphex Type C2 or any Bob Carver stuff please send it over!
