First Production G-22000???

Here a guy that says he bought a G-22000 in Japan in 1972. That would be a very special unit because production of the G-22000 didn't begin until the spring of 1978. I emailed the guy and suggested he may be mistaken on the date and he insists his memory is correct because that's when he was in the service and on R&R in Japan.

I think he's little confused.
The G series receivers weren’t even available in 72.
I doubt that the G series was even in the prototype stage at
that point.
 
I'm sure he's confused. I sent him a followup sugesting he may have bought a Sansui while in Japan, just not this one.

Why don't you ask him what the serial numbers are? That should clear things up I think.........
 
Well he changed his story today. Now he says he is selling it for his dad (no mention of that in the listing) and his dad was "drafted in 1967 and got out in 1979." He's changed the date in the listing but left the rest the same.

My guess is he's trying to increase the value with this has been in the family story. If he's fudging on this point, what else has been embellished? If anyone is interested in this unit, ask a lot of questions.

Ask where his Dad was stationed and which specific base he bought the Sansui. He should be able to provide that info. We were stationed in Japan in a number of places over the course of those years. The nevertheless the G-22000 is one Sansui's most impressive receivers.
 
I'll leave that up to someone that is actually interested in buying this beast. He said in his first response that he didn't remember what city the factory was in. This is before he said he was selling it for his dad. My guess is he will be a little hazy on the detailes of his military service too.

I just looked at the listing and this is what it says in the listing...

I am selling my 22000 Series Sansui Receiver and Amplifier.

I've had these since1978. I picked them out at the Sansui plant in Japan. Had them shipped to the px and, we went home together.

Looks like he (or his dad) hand picked them at the factory. I have no interest just read the listing and saw onepixel's suggestion/question.
 
It originally said he bought it at the factory in 1972. He changed it based on my emails. The listing is still in the first person, "I've had this since 1978." He's not saying he's selling it for his dad. Another iffy point is why would you "pick them out at the factory” and then have it shipped to the PX." Wouldn't it make more sense to ship it stateside or to the barracks? The story doesn’t add up.

Exactly why I pointed out the lines I did. Seems like a bigger chance than if you were to just take a quick look at the auction.
