First thing to check on a skelton

Have the skeleton of a tube amp, minus tubes. And worse, a cut power cord.
Now that I have a cord on it, can I do any damage to the trannies by firing it up. And what would you check first to see if its worth a restore. Will bring it up slow on variac and a dbt.
