Fisher 102 Speaker Cabinets - Resto Mod or Don't Bother

I have a pair of Fisher 102 speakers. They're old 3-ways with 12' woofers. I know the woofers were replaced about 25 years ago instead of re-coning the originals. I do like the look of the cabinets. If I were to replace the guts with modern components, what would you all recommend? Is it even worth doing, or should I just get new modern speakers instead?

It can certainly be done and it's usually easier with sealed, i.e. acoustic suspension speakers. The first thing I would do is tap the sides of the cabinet. If you get a hollow sound, don't bother. If it seems solid, then I would pull the woofer and see if you can ID it. You might be able to get an idea if it's better suited for a ported system in which case it get much more expensive because they'll have to be replaced. At the end of the day you may not get any better sound than a modern speaker esp. if you have to replace the woofs, but the DIY element can be fun.:)
