Fisher 1960?

i think this is a 1960 fisher console but not sure.
it has a 100t chassis preamp-tuner and a sa-16 amp,garrard turntable.

i get no sound out of it but all the lights work and the micro tuners work.
anyone have any idea's as to why i get no sound?.
i'm new to tube stuff and may not be able to repair it.
if that's the case then i will sell it off.

It's beautiful. It's a 1961 Coronet II (model C-55). If it's got the SA-16 then the tuner/control amp should be a 101-T. Try to isolate which component isn't functioning - tuner/control amp, amp or speakers - by substituting known working components in the signal chain and proceed from there. But remember that you are dealing with 50 year old electronics and just about anything could fail at this point. You're taking the chance of doing even more damage just by plugging it in and turning it on. Proceed with caution. The good news is that Fisher gear was built to last and will often defy the odds and still function after half a century.
 
it has the sa-16 and 100-t.
here's the pics.
looking at it closer it looks like it may have a bad tube or two in the tuner.
they look black and burnt at the tops.
i may see if i can get replacement tubes for those two and try it.
all the tubes in the amp look good.

I scan the local craigslist, doesn't ever seem to be much of ANYTHING stereo-wise let alone Fisher! :no:

Once in awhile there is BPC that seems to be about it. Occasionally a nice piece of vintage solid state from what seems to be the same guy but at ebay prices.

Still doesn't keep me from looking though! I know there's a dusty Fisher in someone's basement waiting to be brought back to life!

I'd start with cleaning the controls and checking and cleaning connections.
Remove the tubes ONE AT A TIME and clean the sockets and pins and re-seat.
Search here for "deoxit"
Try all the inputs, try hooking another amp to the pre-out to isolate the problem.
The black on the tubes does not mean they're toasted, that's the 'getter' which is usually silver or black deposit put there during manufacture to GET stray gasses.

A unit this old should have some freshening of capacitors if you're going to put it in regular service.

I was not aware that that chassis was used on the Coronet II. Some of Fisher's consoles went through several versions within a single model year. I suspect that yours is from early in the model year since the 100-T is more of 1960 model (a contemporary of my '60 TA-600 receiver). Beside the 101-T/SA-16 combination it was also offered with a 500-S all-in-one receiver chassis. I believe that would have been from late in the '61 model year.

Do you have any documentation, like a sales receipt or hang tags that are dated from 1960? It is possible that your '61 Coronet was manufactured and/or purchased in 1960 since Fisher and many other console manufacturers usually debuted their new models in Sept. like the auto industry. If you end up doing any disassembly of the 100-T (highly recommended if only to DeOxit the controls and do a general inspection), check the back of the face plate for a date stamp and that will give you a general idea of the date of manufacture. My '60 Premiere has a June 1959 date stamped on it.

I strongly encourage you to get this console back into operation. You will be amazed at how good they can sound. Plus, I don't need the temptation of another Provincial Fisher just a few hours down Rt. 29. However, if you have it up and running by next spring maybe I could drop by and check it out - I pass through Charlottesville on a regular basis during the warm months for camping purposes on my way to and from a friend's property down in Nelson Co.
 
can someone post a pic of there speaker connections on the sa-16 amp?.
i'm not sure but i think mine may have had the wires connected wrong.
both black wires on each side were twisted together and hooked to the g screw. i think it's the the ground?.
 
ok i just hooked the tuner up to a separate amp and the tuner works fine:thmbsp:

nothing looks wrong (burnt,cracked,broken) on the sa-16. underneath is clean,fuse looks good,tubes all light up ect.

i'll pull each tube and try reseating them on the amp.

on the speaker connections which ones do i connect to?. see pic.
on the speaker wires + goes to the 8 and -goes to g correct?.
i'll try an external set of speakers (8ohm) to see if i can get it to work that way.

+ to 8 and - to G on the spkrs. If you have 4 oHm externals then DISCONNECT the INTERNAL's 1st and the n connect + to 4 and - to G. Same with 16oHms.

12AX7's don't have lot of glow to them. It's normal.

.7 oHms????? If the speakers are hooked up correctly in the cabinet, you should be between 7 and 9 oHms at the wire.

Where did you check? At the connections at the amp? If so you are reading more than the output transformers.

There should be a speaker wire from the speakers to the amp. What did you get at the end of the speaker wire. Not the individual speakers. If it's between 7 and 9 oHms go for the 8 oHm connection.

at the speaker wire i got 15.6 ohms.
the woofers are 16 ohm so i think that's the correct reading on the speakers.

at the output connection on the amp i'm only getting point 7 ohms.
