FISHER 290-T (Diplomat) WS-1 speaker out--ohms?

Hey everyone,
I am really enjoying my 1964 Fisher Diplomat with the 290-T Chassis. It has outputs for external speakers that Fisher sold as "WS-1" speakers, which were to run at the same time as the main, built-in speakers. Can I just use these as hookups for other (passive) speakers? 8 ohm? Thanks for any thoughts you have!

8 ohm I think. I have just the chassis and have used those to connect speakers. It's just wired in parallel with the screw terminals. Only one set of taps on the transformers.
 
WS-1's are 8ohm 4x6 full range. basically a hole filler or expander (depending on where you put them). They are in parallel with the Main speakers so you have an effective load of 4ohms to the unit. To be safe, to run one set or other, you could put a DPDT switch in both sides to switch between the speakers. 4 ohms load on this is a bit sketchy, as I don't see a multi tap on the secondary of the transformer, and they tend to be on the small side too. Gadget could get into the detailed stuff, but just off the top of my head, one or the other, not both.
 
yeah they're bitty little transformers. Its an ELL80 output, only good for maybe 10 watts though I have never actually measured mine. This was also Fisher's bottom of the line stereo tube unit so its as basic as it gets. Still manages to not sound bad and have a pretty competent tuner and stereo decoder.
