Fisher 295?

Buddy of mine is getting back into stereo stuff after 20+ years and dropped off a nice looking Fisher 295 saying it had "static" on FM. I was hoping it was just dirty pots or switches. We plugged it in the other night with my phone into the AUX 1 input and I hear clicks and pops in the left channel that had nothing to do with moving any of the controls - it's obviously got noisy transistors.

I see they're not worth a whole lot, and it will take a lot of work to restore it. I'm thinking full on recap and transistor replacement... Is it even worth fixing? It sure sounded pretty good - even with all the racket - for the couple of minutes that we had it powered up!

Yup, Larry's been to my house to help me with my 400! Ha! I PM'd him as well.

OH - forgot to mention I got a full SAMS folder with skits...

^ While I personally don't know him based on his input of Fisher knowledge here I would say your in good hands.

My comments in that post still stand. Having said that, the 295 can benefit greatly from replacement of ALL of the 2sc458's (Low Noise they ain't!) in it. About 15-16 of them (just glancing at the scats on HIFIEngine.). Mainly in the preamp/tone control board AND the MULTIPLEX Board. Otherwise it's a straight recap of lytics, and paper caps. I'd say about $45-50 in parts off the top of my pointy little head.
