Fisher 304 Quad Reciever

I just recieved a Fisher 304 Quadraphonic reciever from one of my relatives that did not want it any more. It's in pretty good condition. I gave it a good clean up and DeOxit on all the controls. All lights work and it sounds quite good. Does anybody know what the specs are for this unit and what it is worth today? (See Attached Picture)

Fisher 304 4-Channel Reciever

It looks like you have the original Fisher 304 4-Channel AM-FM Receiver. It was a current model in 1974. The original suggested retail price was $329.95. Power was claimed to be 15 W/ch continuous into 8 ohms (20 W/ch into 4 ohms) with 0.5% THD from 20 - 20,000 Hz. at rated power. Rated usable FM sensitivity 1.8 uV for 30 dB quieting; capture ratio 1.2 dB. It includes a built-in SQ decoder for playing SQ encoded records or broadcasts.

Fisher also made a 304-B that sold for $399.95 in 1974. The main difference seems to be the joystick balance control in place of the two sliders.

I can not help you much with the value. It looks real nice, however, not many people seem to be interested in lower power units. Have you tried a search on completed auctions on the well known auction site?

Yes, I cant find any that have been sold or are currently for sale. Thanks for the other info. I would have thought it had more than 15 wpc just based on the massive heat sinks on the back of the unit. As far as the tuner, it is better than any reciever I have ever owned in the fact that it tunes FM stations in my basement with no antenna attached. I have never had a reciever that would do that.

Quadraphonic

Nothing wrong with a good honest 15 W/ch. Since that is four channels the total power is sixty watts. Have you hooked it up to play four channel? With a modern universal disc player as a source, one can have a lot of fun with a quadraphonic receiver like that.

I have not tried that yet, I do have a Denon universal player and two sony SACD players. What happens to center channel and sub though ?

down mix

Many SACD, DVD-A or universal players allow one to turn off the center and sub. channels and then down mix those into the remaining channels. Check the setup menu for this feature.
