FISHER 400 RECEIVER

Had my Fisher 400 receiver restored (Metal bone kit ) have a question on the stereo beam there is only one FM station about 2 miles away yet the beam does not fully come together its still 1/4 inch apart or maybe a little more ? what gives......??? FM alignment....Thanks

1/4" is good. I've never seen a late model 400 fully close. I've seen a few of the earlier ones fully close. Early below S/N 48000 (I think)

Very likely. It was not an absolute feature that the beam closed on stereo stations, but rather, approached the center nearly closing, with some sets actually closing the tube depending on the sensitivity of the particular tube installed. The antenna is very important for good stereo reception -- you will want to check that it is adequate, and that it is not overloading the set since you are so close to the station, too.

On the late version the alignment is wrong for adjusting the top and bottom of Z5. (1st and 2nd instruction). This directly affects how the Stereo beam closes. But don't do this yourself unless you know how to do the alignment and have the tools and alignment gear. This does NOT APPLY to the EARLY VERSION with 3 IF tubes. (V3-V4-V5)

If the tuner and mpx is adjusted properly , IN MONO the Tube will close about 1/2 way on a strong station. Then in stereo should close ALMOST all the way. There may or may not be a slight gap in the center depending on the tube.
