Fisher 500B - Just Picked Up

I just picked up this Fisher 500B receiver.

All original tubes. Came out of a "console" according to the seller. I'm sure it was a custom console because I don't know of Fisher using the 500B in their consoles.

Untested and uncleaned.

Unfortunately, the seller did some research so it didn't come cheap.

A word of warning, the serial number on these is printed on the chassis. I rubbed to see the serial number and it came off!

Way to go Jon. BTW How's Red's old console doing. He went after Buglegirl's Premiere like a Sailor On Dollar Day in the Red light district.

I got just the "console" to put that one in. (it's got my 400 in it now). 61 Coronet II C-55 Provincial. Thinking of dropping the 800C in it right now, just to shake up things in the house.

The serials on my 59 Consolette and 560 Extension are rubber stamped. All the others are punched.

Nice find, congratulations!

I would test it & replace anything in need of replacing. I just did a pretty complete re-cap job on my 500C and what a world of difference it makes.

Enjoy your unit, they sound incredible.

My 500B is 1962 vintage. Serial was stamped. And, yes, it rubbed right off. With my thumb, no less.... LOL

When you asked me about this I had the vague remembrance of once investigating which Fisher receivers were used in their consoles. While far from an in depth reply, this was the post I was thinking about:

My first 500B was the same. It had an ink stamped S/N. Rubbed on the serial number, and unfortunately mine came right off as well. It must've been that specific run of 500B's because my second one has the S/N machine stamped into the chassis.
I not familiar enough with Fishers to know which of them is which, early or late production. Though I am aware that the 500B itself was a short lived model, not in production for more than a couple of years before it was superseded.
