Fisher 500C

TENER

Well-Known Member
All I can say is I am going to buy a lottery ticked. The past 4 days have been great for me. Saturday morning I got a Nakamichi Dragon Cassette deck for $25. Now this morning I got a Fisher 500C for $12.00!! I got a Sansui 2000X with it. They charged me $24 for both in a bundle. Isn't that wild! It's been a great 4 days for me for sure.

Oh and I kind of like the crazy wavy messed up tuner dial.

Looks like original output tubes in the 500C. Wonder if they are still good? Treat them gently until you find out.

And a cool looking tube tester! Better buy two lottery tickets!

I bought 10 :) I have had the tester for years now. It's the best Heathkit made and will match tubes. But I did get it off craigslist years ago for $16.00. I could sell it for a nice profit but it's worth more to me to keep and use it.

I took the 500C apart and pulled all the tubes so I can test them later. I just brushed off the dust on the stereo it's self and it's in much better condition than I thought. Now I have not checked it electrically yet but the slow blow fuse in the back is blown. I believe this unit has never been worked on before and is completely original and unmolested. The wood case is NICE! I cleaned and used some furniture polish on it and it looks really great.

I didn't realize that this thing had 9 12ax7 tubes in it. They all date to ether Oct or Dec 1963. All are Fisher branded Telefunkin's. I hope they are all good

Serial 43118J or 45118J. And it's a VIRGIN. The tele's should be good. Take the tubes with the closest matching sections (12ax7 are twin triodes) and use them in V16 and V17. These 2 tubes are the low filter amp and high filter amp for both sides, so matching sections is a plus here.

Thanks for the advise. The serial is 43118J, Is that the first year of these? I was wondering because from what I have read Fisher first sold these in 1964 and the tubes are from Oct and Dec 1963. You would think from the tube dates it's an early model. I also numbered each tube to it's original socket so I can put them back exactly where they came out. And if any are bad I know which socket it came from encase that part of the amp is the cause.

800-c came out in Model year '63 (Sept 62 to Aug 63) 10001-19999 series is exclusively for the 1963 Executive VII (Model 950) console. It's a specific version of the 800-c with very slight differences in the output transformers and feedback network. Unless you know what you're looking at you'd swear it was a standard 800-c. The 20001-29999 was Standalone for 1963. 1964 Model year, the 800-c was standardized for the console and standalone (the only difference is Executive on faceplate for console units. These were the 30001-39999 and some (unknown exactly how many) of the 45001-49999 series. My 45xxx 800c was built in 1964, between April and May based on date codes on the transformers, can larger capacitors. Your about 3 weeks earlier probably mid march to Early April. 800-c was last built in 1967-68 model years as a Multi voltage update known as the 1800.

Does this apply to my 500C? I know they are basically the same other than mine has no AM, Where they introduced at the same time?

Boy, was I running on old fumes. Wrong Model, Same time.

Yep, 500c introduced at same time as 800c. 400 was 1964 model year. Except for the console part (Fisher never made a console with the 500c) pretty much identical. Production for the 500c pretty much ended in the 67 model year when the model 1800 was introduced for oversea Military sales. . Solid State was introduced into the Fisher lines in 1964 (Hybrid amps in some consoles) and Solid State integration was complete by end of 1966 model year.

Okay that would make sense, My tubes being late 1963. I bet my stereo made in 1963 and was sold in 1964
