Fisher 600 Stereophonic tube receiver

Hey, congrats guys! :thmbsp: I'm kinda late, just saw this thread, but I love looking at these old Fishers, & the old ads. :smoke:

They broadcasted the same source material on the AM and FM band simultaneously yetsomewhat out-of-phase to create the stereo effect. This was this the original "simulcast" (prior to ture "multi-plexed" FM stereo)
Most older receivers built around 1960 were multiplex "ready" but still had some sort of simulcast setting- HK TA-260 has an AM+FM position . (Certainly useless nowadays)

Yes, that's the way they did it.
My father engineered the first AM-FM stereo simulcast in Baltimore, MD on (IIC) WITH AM and FM ca. 1957.

I always wondered about that as my HK TA-260 has an AM+FM position that has always seemed kinda senseless. (Well certainly sensless nowadays)

Yes and both bands played on their own respective channel.
Driver tubes are EI typeII, I have 3 quads. I'm hearing good things about the Gold Lion reissues. I'm thinking of getting a quad from Jim McShane to use in another Citation II I have waiting to restore.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Jim says the Lions are excellent. I'd been trying to find some Ei's to try but will now likely just get some Lions.
But I havnt heard where JM like to bias them yet. I currently have 20 ohm in my cathodes (~75ma) as I'm using vintage TungSol 6550 right now. You're probably running a bit hotter with the Ei's right?

The last KT99 (type III)were very iffy toward the end, poor QC. And as you know EI ceased production some time ago. If you can get them, the KT99 is probably the best output(I know, I called them drivers earlier, shouldn't post before having coffee.) for the CitationII.

Yes the KT99 can take a lot and on Jim's recommendation they are up there. He did the amp I have for somebody else, I got it after it didn't work in that fellow's system. His loss, my gain!
Jim McShane is very free with information. send an email with any concerns or questions and he will help out best he can.
