Fisher 600 Tube Receiver

I am having my Fisher 600 repaired/restored and ran into a bad selector switch. Tried cleaning it, but no signal passes through it.
Does anyone know a source for replacement or suggestion for repair. Thanks for your input.

This will be impossible to replace, except from another 600 or possibly another Fisher model. As for repair, should be possible if there's no broken wafer, and some have managed to fix those...
 
I'll see if I can extract one from my parts carcass. Not sure if its any good or not. Might not get to it for a couple of days, I have somewhere to be after work tomorrow at least.
 
There used to be a cleaner called "Tuner Renu" that was meant to be used on TV tuner contacts. I used that stuff on one Sansui receiver that spent close to 30 years in a damp basement. All rotary switches had their contacts oxidated so badly that Deox-it was no help. That spray washed all of the black oxidation off the contacts and I never had any issues with those switches later. I tried to find this chemical and obviously, it is no longer in production. Made in the last century for last century equipment...
 
Try Tarn-X. Seems to work pretty good.
Caution is advised. Tarn-X must be thoroughly washed off the work afterward with clean running water. Any residual Tarn-X will corrode the metal. I don't think it's safe to use unless the switch is completely disconnected and removed from the unit.

Switches and pots are the reasons I have decided to give up on receivers. Often the culprit and often impossible to replace.

The same goes for integrated amps. The best result IMO comes from stripping the iron and building as straight power amps with all-new parts.

Much as I love how recievers look, I will not claim to love working on them. Integrated aren't quite as bad but most of them do have too many switches in the path.
 
Sometimes, if a contact doesn't close on a wafer switch its an open contact... I was able locate one on a receiver with a pokin stick and a lighted magnifier,, check for cracked wafers also...
It will take sometime to check them all, and a little luck helps... I think they get wedged open with a little too much aggressive brushing/cleaning...
