I've got a chance to pick up a Fisher 600 tube receiver. I've been all over the net trying to find out what I can about this piece, not much out there. I hope someone here can shed some light or point me in the right direction. Its in very very nice condition, sounds amazingly rich and full. I've read alot about 400/500/800 any info on the 600 would be wonderful. Thanks...

Nice receiver... that one's got EL84 outputs and, as mentioned above, tube rectification. The only problem with it (not a huge deal, IMNSHO) is it's pre multiplex FM stereo.
 
FWIW, I have the operaters manual but it doesn't give specs.

It's a great sounding receiver. It was my introduction to tube amplification and I haven't looked back.

Is the 600 up to par with 400/500/800? I've heard that the 600 was only available in consoles'. I have auditioned the 600 I'm talking about and it does sound real nice....

What really matters is how it sounds. I owned a Fisher 500c and still own a Fisher FM-1000 tube stereo tuner. The Fisher tube gear is built like a tank and if gone through and operating to specs will sound nice. If the price is fair and the unit is in good cosmetic shape you will have nothing to lose. You can easily sell it to recover most or all of your original money on it. That statement holds true unless you pay crazy money for it of course. I wish I had kept my 500C but I went to separates. I was able to drive 4 Celestion 91dB efficient speakers at once with that 500c with no problems. Good luck! John
 
John pretty much covered it. The 600 sounds good and with a little love will bring years of bliss. It's built rock solid and has very good iron. It is not a console unit from what I know, mine came with a Fisher case and the instructions clearly suggest a stand alone unit.
 
I have had 3 Fisher 600's. Only one of the three came from a console. They are very well built and sound very very good.
