Fisher 800b Metal Shield

I have a Fisher 800b serial 24068e which is missing the metal shield usually located between the output transformers and the output tubes. From the photos I find online all other examples of the 800b and 500b have the metal shield. I can't find any holes or marks suggesting my receiver ever had the metal shield.

Anyone else have an 800b or 500b like this?

My tubes on my 800b are between the output transformers and the front panel, and I do have a shield between the two. At least I can look at the power tubes from the front of the receiver :)

MikeRam: I see the extra holes where the shield connects to your chassis. I've checked carefully and mine doesn't have them. Thanks for the closeup.

You can always try an get one, then install it. In the mean time, Some 3" metal HVAC ducting tape (silver color) on the transformers on the side facing the tubes will help reflect a lot of the radiant heat from the tubes. I've done this on my TA-600, and Sansui 1000A and it works quite good. Not as good as the shield, but it's better than nothing.

Thanks Larry. Was just wondering if this might be a production variation.

I have an extra 400 shield and was going to use my 500c shield to trace out a template for the 800b. I should be able to drill a couple of holes and install it.

Mike: I think you might be right. I'll try shifting the output transformers over a bit and see if that clears the holes. Thanks.

If a 500-B shield will work I most likely have one you can have. Got a parts unit and will check later.

I've got one off the 500-b. Here's the dimensions: 6-1/4" ctc for the studs, 2-7/8" tall and 6-3/4" long. If that helps you PM me your address.

I might have a shield on a junked-out 800B if that one doesn't fit, though there's no reason why it shouldn't.

I rechecked the 800b chassis and I see the holes MikeRam pointed out. I guess I got fooled because I was using my 500c metal shield as a guide because it looked the same as the 800b shield in photos and the 500c would not fit. I can see now that the shield mounting posts must be different.

Still on close inspection I don't see any marks on the top or bottom indicating a shield was ever mounted. At any rate a shield is coming thanks to bhamham so the output transformers should have some protection from now on.
