Fisher Ambassador console stereo

I have the chance to pick up a working Fisher Ambassador console. The lady has it at a storage unit and sounds like she just wants to dump it. From what I gather it's a hybrid amp rated at 33 per channel. I was wondering if there is a market for these or do they sound good enough to keep. At $75.00 it tempting me.

Probably 75 bux worth of Mullard 12AX7s in it, not to mention the rare and pricey 6HU8s in the main amp section. It will sound very good, but the foams will need replacing on the woofers. The pre/tuner is all tube, but the amp section is hybrid. There was some trouble with these blowing up and taking the interstage TXs out, as well as the Germanium transistors. I suppose one could convert the transistors to silicone though.

True for the '64 Ambassador VI (model A-69 w/ Garrard type A turntable) and the '65 Ambassador VII (model A-690 w/ a Dual 1009 turntable), however; the '66 Ambassador (no roman numeral suffix, model A-691 also w/ a Dual 1009) only has 3 nuvistors and is otherwise completely solid state.

I'd be inclined to haggle as these are not really sought after consoles. That being said, the 1966 Fisher Custom Electra hybrid I picked up a few years ago (for free!) still sounds excellent. I gave it to a friend and she uses it daily as a rather large and stylish iPod dock.

Thanks for the info guys. This is the 1966 model with nuvistors so I'm gonna pass on this one. I was hoping it would be the earlier and it would still have it's original 12AX7's that I could use in my Fisher KX-200. Thanks again.

I had that exact console a couple years ago. Mine had the optional tube R2R with mics, all three Dual spindles, strobe disc, receipt and all documentation. It sounded excellent.

That said, I think $249 is optimistic.
