Fisher console

Seems awful expensive for a set of consoles.
If you want any hope of negotiating the 510 into the house you'll want to watch your terminology. Consoles are HUGE, a set of consoles would be insanity (sorry, Markus). A "Consolette" is petite and the tiny "Companion Speaker" hardly bears mentioning and will easily tuck out of sight into a corner.

It can be done.

You said smoke came out... Looks like one of those can caps in the pics you provided is shot. Its leaning to one side as if it has spewed its guts out the bottom.

It looks like have a fairly large problem. My wife hates these - the looks of them. I am not quite sure what to do.

Maybe I can paint them:yikes::grumpy::grumpy::yikes::dunno::dunno:

I can usually sweet talk her into al ot of stuff, but she is not going to budge on this one.

Hey Mark,

That is not a problem!

I love 'em.

Just box 'em up and send them to me.

I think what I am going to do is pull the amps out and refurbish them. Then take the consoles themselves and cover them with heavy moving blankets and put them in my shop/work area. I will build a small platform for the amps but leave them original - for easy reinstallation.
I will use the amp like this with speakers that are approved by the management.
Maybe next spring start a refurb on the consoles. At that time look at possibly reinstalling the amps and "upgrading" to an all in one receiver or integrated amp.

I tried to talk to my wife, I offered new furniture to match the fishers - big mistake. Her reply
"those are absolutely hideous, why would I want anything even remotely similiar?"

For now, they are in my shop awaiting a cleanup and overhaul.

Mark

BTW, I think that is a crooked tube cover. I checked both can caps and they are straight as an arrow.
The prvious owner said smoke came out. I haven't found any evidence of over heating yet though. Hmm.........

....I offered new furniture to match the fishers....
A valiant effort! I would have loved to see what you might have done with that. To do a whole room in Mid-Century Modern would take guts, though -- definitely not a style that appeals to everyone.

Your plan sounds like a good one, given the opposition.

I have a pair of Fisher 30a's monoblocks that I picked up and restored (simple job of recapping and getting some good tubes). They're wonderful sounding amps. Mine are in raw form, but it's not hard to "package" them without compromising their originality. I use them to drive some fairly inefficient speakers and love them.
