Fisher KX-200 pitting on faceplate HELP

Hi, please have a look at the photo and tell me if there is any way to remove the pitting/surface abrasions on the brass. I have tried soapy water and Wenol metal polish, neither has worked.

If there's no possible way of fixing the finish, would anyone have or know where to find a KX-200 faceplate in good condition?

FWIW - I used Mr Clean Magic Eraser on the faceplate of my 400 receiver..

I do not know if the KX-200 uses the same lettering scheme etc ... you might experiment on a small section... do not know about the lettering ,, but my results were pretty good..

I can’t tell from the pic, but are you sure it’s pitting?
I just cleaned a 400 faceplate that had a whitish substance similar to that look. It took a while under ammonia to break it up. Finger nails got it going. Scares me to use anything harder than a nail (finger type). Seems like the same substance is on the knobs.

That looks like old lacquer that has lost adhesion. If you do manage to clean it off with the magic eraser (I've also had good luck with this product), take the face plate off and seal it with Deft Semigloss clear spray lacquer. I've used this product to preserve and protect the stencil from wearing off. When used carefully, the coating will be invisible. Practice on something you don't care about until you have the hang of it.

I agree with infullview. The Original Lacquer is peeling off. His method has merit (even tho I've not used it).
