Fisher Kx-90 Control Amp ?

Hi all,

Try as I might, I can find very little information on this Fisher.
Might anybody have any insight/information on this FISHER unit ?
My brother Doug picked me up a FISHER KX-90 and a EICO ST97 today!
Gotta make a ROAD TRIP soon!

The KX-90 was the last Fisher "Strata-Kit" unit manufactured. It was released roughly around late 1964....and came out right around the time that the first Fisher solid state pieces debuted.

It has the die cast w/aluminum inserts face panel....what some people call the "solid state" face panel.

The KX-90 is very similar to the X-100-A/2/3 units that were made during the same era. Not the X-100 mind you...which is tube rectified. The KX-90 X-100-A/2/3 units use solid state diodes.

The KX-90 uses EL-84's. It is a very wonderful sounding unit, and it is actually one of my favorite Fisher stereo amps....and I have spent time with all of them.

If it is clean...it is a keeper. The KX-90 is on the rare side, as it was only sold for about few years.

Firstly, WELCOME to AK! Thank you so very much el-37 for the information and pixs you so kindly provided. Wow! I am now REALLY excited about acquiring this FISHER KX-90 Tube amp (and a rare one at that!).
Oooh, el-37...any idea how many watts per channel this unit is rated ?
I hope it has enough watts to drive my Wharfedale W90's.

Oooh Man! How right you are Sir! How right you are! What a WONDERFUL sounding FISHER! I can't believe it's 15-17 watts per channel.

It IS amazing how well 17 watts can sound with the proper speaker. I once had a Dynaco SCA-35 integrated amp rated at 17 watts/channel. It sounded fantastic when running my AR4x speakers. Unfortunately after I retired and moved it got lost in the shuffle.

Oooh, so sorry to hear that your Dynaco was lost! Bummer. I sure hope you will one day find a replacement and get back tubing!

Hi Six Cats, sorry I missed your response. Right now we are knee deep in home updating. Doing the bathroom and possibly the kitchen next. Once the dust settles, perhaps I can look for a tube unit for the living roomsystem. I'm thinking Jolida, possibly the hybrid amp. We'll see!
 
Older thread, but still interesting. Mine's still at the tech's house, in que. I'm kinda anxious to get it back, but he's both busy/backlogged and dealing with health issues, so I'm not rushing it. I heard it playing for about 5-10 minutes, after he fixed a bad solder joint, & yeah, it sounds great. :thmbsp:
