Hi everyone,
My Fisher MT-6420 DD Semi-Automatic TT had a problem with auto-return mechanism.
In the end of recording or when I hit reject button, the tonearm rised up and went into 3/4 of its way. There the motor of TT braked and stopped, but the strobe light was still on. In order of not damaging the motor, I immediately unplugged the TT and I manually rotated platter backwards to the position before auto-return mechanism was initiated.
When I opened the device I found cracked shaft that is on spindle.
This shaft turns autoreturn mechanism. Due the crack, the shaft had to move slightly down on spindle. After that protrusion on shaft slipped when hitting autoreturn (explicitly shown in the following two images). The gears meshed at the wrong timing, causing the protrusion to jam against the mechanism and stopping the motor. I moved the shaft a little higher and the mechanism works as it should again. The problem is that I don't know how long it will last ... I couldn't find any aftermarket parts on the internet. Only disassembled parts from turntables, which durability after 40+ years is questionable.
The display in these two pictures is a bit exaggerated. In fact, the mechanism would not be triggered in such examples. There would only be a clicking sound.
However, I have a problem: After I flipped the platter over, this little plastic part fell out.
It doesn't fit anywhere and I don't know where it belongs. The record player is fully functional. Here's picture of plinth and platter upside down (if it helps).
Can somebody help me with it? Does anyone have a service manual? I think that there is only instruction/owners manual on Vinyl Engine (that I cannot download - no new registrations + I'm from eastern Europe) which probably won't help.
