Fisher only Solid State Pics

Hi,

Just to stir some collectors of Fisher solid state, since most picture are vacuum tube. I'ved got this pic from a 1969 Hi-Fi magazine , the 500-Tx (equivalent to 800T) is $449.95 at that time. Show what you got or actual pic of your beloved Fisher Solid State. I've got one of this but I gave it to my brother...now I want it back :scratch2:

that is the fisher 1080 stereo receiver. look at he size of the caps and power transformer ,nice huh?:thmbsp: it can deliver insane amounts of bass, you gotta get one to believe!!

The nice thing about those large caps in the RS-1080/RS-2015 is they don't solder in.Simply remove the screws and replace.Mine are still orig but would be no trouble to replace

The RS-1080/2015 are two channel receivers.

Fisher 404

I have only owned two Fisher solid state receivers, the 220 and the 404. I used the 220 as my kitchen radio for about a year. The 404 I picked up more recently. I was curious about its performance as a quadraphonic receiver. After replacing a bad PA-500 amplifier module, I hooked it up and enjoyed some sweet quadraphonic sound. The SQ decoder does a pretty good job of synthesizing quadraphonic sound from two channel sources. The Fisher 404 = fun in four channels.

As it turns out, the Fisher PA-500 power amplifier module is really a STK-032. I was able to find a new replacement STK-032 on that famous internet auction website to repair my 404.

Oh that avatar was the Fisher 170 , I was suprised that it sounded the same as my previous 500Tx which I gave to my brother but with less power . The 170 sounded like tube and I don't have to use an equalizer at all. Then I used my obsoleted DVD/CD player from my HT room. That one is Sony DVP-NS715P, which has a very good clean sound and separation.The two is like a match in heaven. One thing I experience everytime with Fisher amp is that the built-in equalization sounds similar in all of its models and the main thing that changes is the power. I think that unique equalization is the Fisher "signature" sound.

Where do you get quadrosonic source nowadays ? I have a quad amp but I only use stereo and rest of the gear are two channels. Any advice for us will be appreciated

Where do you get quadrosonic source nowadays ?

First, that is a nice looking Fisher 170, maybe you will post a larger photo or two. The Fisher 170 was from the era when Fisher was beginning to transition it’s manufacturing overseas. Was it made in the USA? My Fisher 404, made just a year or two later, was made in Hong Kong!

Quadraphonic records and tapes (Q8, quadraphonic 8-track tapes and Q4, quadraphonic reel to reel tapes) are often available on that famous internet auction website. I bought a few quadraphonic records new back in the day and now I look for them in the used records stores that I frequent.

Regular two-channel stereo records often will synthesize a quadraphonic sound as well or better than records encoded for quadraphonic. Some records will sound great and others not so great. Also note that many quadraphonic records used a different mix than the two-channel stereo records and often the results were very poor when played back in either two-channel stereo or quadraphonic. e.g. Santana’s Abraxas quadraphonic version blows goats.

Modern day multi-channel source material can also work well with quadraphonic receivers. That is, multi-channel SACD, DVD-A, Dolby Digital and dts Music CDs can be played on a universal disc player as an excellent source for quadraphonic receivers. I recommend this very highly.

The Fisher version I've got was made in Japan. Circa 1971 . Yep , you are right that those period was offshore assembly but design in the US.
But anything Fisher that dates mid 80's and less sound distinctively.

For the Quad , thanks for the good nformation. I will try hooking it out to Surround sound source 5.1 (which is my PC) and see how this goes.

Let me check if I have success in uploading the picture. How do you plug the picture in the text ,like you do ? Looks like I can upload limited file dump.
