Fisher speaker ID help please

I got these with a $10 garage sale receiver (RS-1056, to establish the era) from the original owner - late 70's I think. No labels or numbers remaining outside the cabinets, vinyl on mdf, paper cones, not real promising. Any reason to refoam these, or a waste of time?

They might surprise you. A girl I knew had some many years ago. Think they had CTS drivers in them and on hers,
the midrange drivers were in their own baffle chambers.

I think it would be well worth buying a pair of generic surrounds and fixing them up. If you do not like them, you can easily recover more than your costs.

From my own experience and what I've read about Fisher speakers, they stamp the model # on the inside of the box. I bought a set of 3-way Fishers at a local thrift, but they were missing the grills and stickers. They needed a re-foam, and when I pulled the woofer out I found a # (XP 65s) stamped on the side wall of the box.

After the new foam, they sounded very nice. Foams are cheap. If the drivers are not fried, why not re-foam. You may be pleasently surprised at the sound. If you don't like them, pass them on to somebody who is just starting out or needs a set .

If you pull the drivers, list the #'s on the back of the magnets here. Someone will tell you what you got. They may be junk or gems. Ya never know.

OK - you've all inspired me

I'll open them up this weekend, look for clues, post part numbers, order foam, and they go in the queue....

OK - I opened one up - this is what I found inside:

- 15" woofer - SC 80630 40101 2857742
- (2) 4.5" mids - SB-80521-E 872TNK
- 4.25" tweeter - SA80413 foster 7726 Japan
- crossover as seen in pic attached - can't seem to get a decent image on that, sorry.... PL8145-42 is stamped on it

The "Acoustic Contour Controls" piece has no markings as to model or part number.

The cabinet has no model or numbers stamped anywhere inside.

Anyone have any idea what I have here (other than an itch from the fiberglass ) ???

Well, whomever made the woofer, made the midrange drivers too.
The tweeter (as you know) was made by Foster/Fostex and is their version of the CTS tweeter that was popular for decades.

I'm going to go ahead and refoam the woofers, and see what these babies sound like. As stated above by cablephil212, I can always give them to someone that needs speakers. Although, I don't personally know many people these days that want speakers larger than earbuds. Can't give anything to our kids, that's for sure.:sigh:

Well, at least you know who made the tweets.

The #'s on the woofer is a code for a Rola made driver. That's a pretty good driver. Since the mid #'s are close, I would guess they're made by the same manufacturer.

Overall, not a bad set of components. Re-foam the woofers, put them back together and give 'em a listen. If you like the sound, then it's time to recap the x-overs.

My 65's have Rola woofers too. After I figured out the right amount of damping, there's plenty of clean bass from those boxes. My mid's were replaced, and the tweets (foster's) are all paper, but all 3 drivers blend well for a nice balanced sound. I keep mine for my 3rd system setup.

Hope yours turn out good enough to keep. Don't forget to clean the pots.

The woofer appears to be by Rola (EIA code 285), 42nd week of 1977.
