Fisher X-1000 and FM 200B

I have had the Fisher X-1000 and the FM 200B since new (1963 )
They have been quiet for a long time so I brought them up with a
Variac over about 24 hours. Both work perfectly. The FM is so
fine - so analog - so unannoying. I have some new Svetlana EL 34
tubes for the X-1000. The old tubes ( I have 8 are Sylvania but made
in England ). Now I need to hook them up to my Altec Lansing
Malibu speakers. What quality that after all of these years all of the
controls on the FM 200B are working such as Microtune etc.
The X-1000 is HEAVY but real quality

Like the man said, post some pics. And tell us the story; when did you get the items, why did you put them away and what made you pull them out again?
 
Fisher

I got the Fisher X-1000 and the FM 200B while in the
Air Force on Guam 1963. They were shipped from the States.
The X-1000 was in a wooden crate then another box then
the regular Fisher carton. I had a Fisher 500B also.
Later I got a Sony receiver 6200F supposed to be the best
Sony at the time. It never had the bass of the Fisher but
at the time the world was going transistor. The Sony died
of a bad transformer ( no surprise ). I was a bit afraid to just
turn them on so the Variac. The jewel lights still glow nicely.
I really had forgotten how good the FM 200B was. Too bad
FM in New Orleans is rather poor except for 2 stations. I gave
somone a Fisher 800C that was perfect except for some hum
and he had it fixed with some new capacitors. It is his favorite
source. The golden era of Fisher.
 
Barry: Even tho you don't have any hum right now, I'd look seriously into recapping Both the X-1000 and the FM-200B. Power supply, Bias Power, and the coupling caps as a minimum. AUDIODON I think has one of these, and is either in the process or just finished his.

Tool around here on the FISHER FORUM , and look at all the classics the guys have managed to get over the years. Some of these guys would put most Military scroungers to shame. Or they were scroungers in a prior life. Most of the consoles are just drop dead gorgeous. But then again I'm prejudiced, as I have 3 FISHER consoles.

The FM-200B is a fantastic tuner... Sure I like mine!

It had some hum when acquired and was loosing one channel randomly.

A recap and a thorough cleaning is just what was needed.

Well, I turned 2 in December of '63, so I'm just a snot-nosed little brat to you, I guess. :D ;) Welcome to AK & the tube forum, I bet you could teach us a little. :thmbsp:
 
Nice Fisher gear! Get them rebuilt with the best components you can afford, and enjoy for another 50 years. I have a restored 800C, it is indeed a fine unit. Got a 400 and 500C awaiting restoration too.

Good to see some more Air Force folks here. I'm in LANTIRN avionics systems right now. BTW, welcome to AudioKarma!
