Fixed my damaged SX-1250

Well, I finally made the repairs to my receiver, that was damaged in shipping. I was able to find a 50 Hz Bass switch, a new control knob & new glass. No luck with a faceplate, so I worked with what I had. After much cleaning, soldering, straitening, hammering, sanding and epoxying, I guess it turned out okay? It looks better to me anyway and everything works, so that's a plus. I couldn't get all of the scratches out, but I was able to get rid of some and lessen the bad ones. I didn't like the way my brushed aluminum finish had turned out, so I just polished it. It is a "hotrod" receiver from Pioneer, so why not. LOL

Very impressive rescue - well done!

Have had a backburner plan for years to take a junk low end receiver and experiment with grinders and brushing etc., on the metal faceplate to repair problems like yours had.

all you can do is be patient and watch ebay religiously. eventually, god willing and the creek dont rise,you might pop positive for one. i'd say ,you did as well or better than most folks would have. i wouldnt feel bad having that set either, in my front room one bit. as far as the face plate damage repair business goes. unless you are in the anodize business and are quite handy at silk screening (for the lettering) theres little one can do except make the damage less obvious. once the anodize is removed the alloy will dull and require constant attention. maybe a coat of car wax can slow things down

What an impressive save! This is the very definition of a labor of love. Your damage pics are sickening. I would have been so angry at the packer and the shipper. Anyway, keep as is and tell the story. This one has history.

I was thinking oxidization shouldn't be to much of a problem, because it is in my living room and not outside, but if it becomes an issue I will probably ceramic coat it or shoot it with a 2K clear. Also the lettering on the Pioneer is recessed, so I was able to fill it in with black paint and finish it down to the polished surface. The way it turned out, I don't think I will try to find a different faceplate, it looks good and it's one of a kind. I will probably reveneer the cabinet and recap the the receiver and hopefully be done with it.
