Fixed or Variable?

I just bought a JVC XL-Z411 CD player. It's actually my first "just CD player" in I don't remember how many years. I like the sound so far. Still testing. However. There's two outputs: Fixed and Variable. Right now I'm connected to the Fixed. I'm wondering if I switch to the variable outs would this allow me to vary the output level of the CD from the headphone pot. Obviously I'm not sure. What's the difference between the two? Any benefits to the Variable over the Fixed?:scratch2:

I like the variable for its' remote contol function. Many will say use the fixed for best performance. It all depends on your needs.Using Nakamichi and Yamaha models at this time.
